Observations and Ramblings
I played Neverwinter Nights a year or so ago and I so very thoroughly enjoyed that game. I played as a halfling sorceress (odd combination I know) and absolutely loved both the main campaign as well as both expansion packs; Shadows of Undretide and Hordes of the Underdark. I'm ashamed to say I haven't completed the other premium modules, but I plan to one day. I was absolutely OVER the moon when I learnt of the sequel to come out and kept relatively up to date with the progress (and very frustrated by the delays). Finally, it was released in Australia and once again I can play as a halfling sorceress to battle whatever evil that arose in the eagerly anticipated sequel.
The first thing I noted was that, well, I couldn't play the game. My video card simply was not powerful enough to even start the game and so I had to rely on playing on my boyfriend's more powerful computer. So be warned those who haven't bought the game (why are you at this fanlisting?) this is one of those games that require quite up to date hardware! My computer is only a few years old yet it's completely useless in this respect.
Here are the other things I noted:
- If you play as a sorcerer/ess, unlike in NWN, you cannot change your familiar after creating your character. I was not expecting this and so I have a silly black cat that follows me that does nothing. I do miss my faerie dragon from NWN (towards the end of Hordes of the Underdark, my dragon was able to do relatively large amounts of physical and magical damage... my current cat does nothing! >_>) but I guess the cat gives my character, well, character. :P
- I'm quite cheesed off that there are no "staff" weapons in NWN2, only quarterstaves. Because of this, my character, being a halfling, cannot carry anything of the sort (while in NWN, she carried a very formidable magical staff around everywhere). I admit I haven't finished the game at the time of writing, but my hope for a carriable staff to be found or bought is dimming. Ah well, she looks quite awesome just walking around with no weapons in her hand but just blowing things up from afar.
- The new warlock class looks very interesting. I'd love to give that a spin once I finished the campaign once over.
- You get to see Deekin again! Woot! He's quite a charming fellow from NWN, it's good to see him again. :D
- I like the sheer number of henchmen you can get in NWN2.
More to come as soon as I finish (and probably replay) this game! Yes, not very informative at all, but it wasn't meant to be informative. :P Please contact me if you have any of your own opinions or observations to contribute.
